Liverton Opticians in Newport are dedicated to providing eye care for all the family.
We stock a wide range of frames to suit ‘mums and dads’, ‘granny and grandpa’ and ‘boys and girls’ of all ages. And this includes eye protection against harmful UV rays, particularly important for little eyes in the Summer.
Before you go on holiday this year make an appointment to have all the family’s eyes checked and make sure you have all the protection you need – not just sun cream but also sunglasses for all.
Liverton Opticians’ Style Event, held just before Easter was a great success with over forty guests attending.
The focus of the evening centred on Team Oarstruck – a group of four local lads who are entered for the Talisker Whiskey Challenge, when they will row across the Atlantic raising funds in the process for Diabetes UK. The target is to raise £50,000 for the charity by way of sponsorship, both commercial and from the public.
Liverton Opticians presented the boys – Monty, John, Hugo and Joel – with Julbo sunglasses, courtesy of the Lenstec Optical Group. The boys chose from the Wave range, which provides all-round protection for life on the water. Fortunately they also float!
Liverton Opticians have recently installed the latest Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) a three dimensional imaging technique that can pick up the slightest abnormalities, including diabetes a major cause of sight loss in the UK. This is offered to everyone as part of the eye examination at no additional cost.
A further development has been the introduction of audiological services from the Charles Street practice in cooperation with RG Hearing, a local family business. RG Hearing will be producing unique and personal ear plugs for Team Oarstruck, moulded specifically to the boys’ ears to protect them during their Atlantic challenge.
Liverton Opticians have recently installed the latest OCT (optical coherence tomography) technology.
OCT is a non-invasive imaging test that uses light waves to take cross-section pictures of your retina, the light-sensitive tissue lining the back of the eye.
With OCT, each of the retina’s distinctive layers can be seen, allowing your ophthalmologist to map and measure their thickness. These measurements help with the diagnosis and provide treatment guidance for glaucoma and retinal diseases, such as age-related macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease.
Not all opticians provide this service and, where it is available, often make high additional charges. At Liverton Opticians we consider this to be of paramount importance in monitoring the health of your eyes and include the test in our standard eye examination at no additional cost to you.
Contact lenses are work safe and loved by millions of people. However, research shows that not all contact lens wearers know how to look after their lenses properly.
The first ever Love Your Lenses Week is taking place between 25th and 31st March 2017. If you’ve not seen your optician in a while, it’s a prime time to book in for an aftercare appointment.
At these appointments, your optician will check that your contact lenses are fitting correctly and that your vision is good, and will talk to you about the best ways to care for your lenses to make sure your eyes stay healthy.
If you love your eyes, you should love your lenses. As well as cleaning and storing contact lenses properly, there are other steps that should be taken, such as making sure they never come into contact with water and always taking them out before you go in the bath or shower.
Liverton Opticians will be holding an exclusive Styling Evening at their practice in Charles Street, Newport, on Friday 7th April from 6.30p.m. until 9.00p.m.
This is a unique event to showcase the latest range of frames available from top international designers. Representatives from some of our leading manufacturers will be present to advise you and to help you to select the best designs and colours to suit both your appearance and your personality.
If you are interested in attending, please contact us by phone on 01633 673094 or by email at email@example.com and we will send you your personal invitation.
Liverton Opticians are offering local schools the opportunity to send groups of students, accompanied by their teachers, to see how an opticians operates and to learn the importance of good eye care. The invitation has been extended to all age groups from junior to secondary schools and colleges in the Newport area.
Catherine McNamara, optometrist and head of the business which has a practice in Charles Street, will explain the use of the sophisticated equipment that has been installed to provide optimum care for patients. This includes the use of retinal
photography at every visit, to monitor and help diagnose at an early stage, any minor changes that might affect future eye health.
The Practice also has specially designed glasses that the children can try on to be able to experience the effects of different problems affecting sight. Mother of four and experienced optometrist Catherine, will explain how the eye works and will be available to answer any questions the students may have.
Letters have been sent to all local schools and a number have already indicated their interest to take part. One teacher remarked that they had recently cleaned the glasses of a number of their students who were complaining of not being able to see lessons properly and emphasis on good hygiene would be welcome!
