OCT – Optical Coherence Tomography

Liverton Opticians include an Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) with both our private eye exams and NHS exams at no extra cost. We feel that everyone should benefit from the best care that we can provide.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) gives us a three-dimensional, realistic depiction of retina and macula, the area of sharpest vision.

From this we receive important data about the retina and probable damage of vitreous humor, optic nerve, retina and surrounding tissue like retinal pigment epithelium and choroid in a resolution similar to that of microscopes.

An Optical Coherence Tomography can highlight a defect before a patient even presents any symptoms.

The OCT can pick up on the following:

Macular Degeneration
Diabetes
Disorders of the papillae (e.g. Glaucoma)
Changes of blood vessels
